RESPONSIBILITIES

- Profitably underwrite Casualty Treaty submissions in support of client/broker strategies and in accordance with department underwriting guidelines/ philosophy and underwriting authority to produce desired profitability.
- Determine pricing, terms and conditions, including the design of the treaty structure and provide responsive and expert decisions on Special Acceptances.
- Participate in the development of LOB and Product strategies by providing analysis & recommendations.
- Assume responsibility for development of the pricing to meet hurdles established by senior management within Underwriting Authority levels and in collaboration with Actuaries.
- Provide input on client strategy to Client Manager and, where appropriate, input on broker strategy to Broker Manager.
- Provide recommendations on portfolio development and management consistent with corporate risk appetite to Client Manager.
- Analyze and monitor account experience and provide Client Manager with guidance on any emerging issues.
- Actively support Client Manager/Client Executive in quote process by participating in presentations and negotiation of quotes.
- Provide input (proactive involvement) and support to broker manager in development of market and product development in conjunction with innovation group where appropriate.
- Develop enhanced technical product and underwriting expertise with respect to primary insurance market and products.
- Conduct and direct audits on accounts and take active role in Client visits conducted in support of broader marketing strategy set by client manager.
- Review contract and endorsement wording to insure accuracy and compliance with corporate requirements.
- Support, training and quality assurance as requested for other Casualty Underwriters.
- As directed, serve on “ad hoc” and other committees to provide input and assistance to management. i.e. LOB expert groups.


QUALIFICATIONS:

- Bachelors degree in Business, Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Economics or related field and/or equivalent work experience.
- 5-7 years of Insurance and/or Reinsurance Treaty underwriting or actuarial pricing experience.
- Able to participate in the presentation & negotiation of treaties with the broker/ clients’ management.
- In-depth knowledge of insurance and reinsurance principles and procedures.
- Strong Project Management skills.
- Familiarity with accounting, finance and actuarial concepts.
- Experience with Primary Insurance and non-traditional products, within the Broker Market preferred
- Ability to explain complex transaction structures to both technical and non-technical audiences (both internal & external).
- Strong presentation skills.
- Expert risk selection skills.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills.
- Thorough knowledge of reinsurance contract wording.
- Entrepreneurial spirit.
- Team player.
- Willingness to travel (@25%).
